Iwata is skipping E3 due to health reasons

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata won’t be attending E3 next week on advice from his physician, according to a report from Polygon. The specific reasoning behind the physicians advice was not given, but the 54 year-old Iwata was advised not to travel overseas in the immediate future.

Despite this, according to Nintendo of America, it’s business as usual for Iwata, who will continue his normal duties for the company while he remains in Japan. According to one representative, he will continue to remain actively involved in all of Nintendo’s duties at the show.

“As always, he will be actively involved in all of Nintendo’s activities at the show.”

Rumor: Nintendo to unveil Mario Maker at E3 2014

Mario Maker, one of Nintendo's unannounced games, may have leaked a few days early, thanks to a grainy photo supposedly taken at the company's under construction booth for E3 2014.

The image, which seems to have been first posted by Nintendo Enthusiast, depicts what looks like a game that uses the sprites and characters from the original Super Mario Bros. It seems that the stylus-controlled title would let users lay out custom Super Mario Bros.-style levels, but it's not clear which current Nintendo platform the title would be available for.

Behind the column depicting Mario Maker are images of Animal Crossing's Villager, Pikachu and Kirby, all of whom will appear in the new Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.
