The mysterious Call of Duty Elite is reported to be a premium platform for online services above and beyond the standard Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer package.

The Wall Street Journal reports Call of Duty Elite will not replace the game’s traditional multiplayer offering, but serve as an enhancement.

Activision community manager Dan Amrich has confirmed the basic Call of Duty Elite service will be free, Confusingly, some of the service’s offerings are said to be free, including Facebook-like social elements for arranging matches. It will also supply players with metrics and analysis tools in order to assess – and hopefully learn from – their performance in-game.

For those willing to pony up, the service, billed monthly, will offer exclusive premium content such as new multiplayer maps. No pricing details were given, but Activision is said to be targeting the sweet spot of “comparable” online services like Netflix, which runs to $7.99 per month.

Activision leader Bobby Kotick apparently said the service is an “enormous investment”, thanks to the associated running costs.

We’ve contacted Activision and are awaiting comment. The Wall Street Journal is rumoured to have broken embargo, so keep an eye out for official word over the next few hours.

Activision has commented multiple times that it has sought some way to “monetise” Call of Duty’s phenomenally popular multiplayer side, and outed an upcoming online initiative during an investor call earlier in the month.

The unannounced service was said to be in development at Beachhead Studios for two years.

Call of Duty: modern Warfare 3 is due on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 before the end of the year, with a major reveal at E3.

Packen wir mal weitere Maps und am besten die Replay-Funktion usw. in ein ueberteuertes Abo-Paket.....

Macht das Spiel nur uninteressanter, aber mal sehen, wie das letzendlich aussehen wird.

"CoD Elite" wird 50 Dollar(/Euro?) im Jahr kosten.

- First, subscribers will get a year's worth of downloadable content for Modern Warfare 3. That is over 20 pieces of new content, he says, spooled out over monthly content drops. That content will include new maps, new game modes and more, with a total cost of over $60 if purchased separately.
- Call of Duty Elite subscribers will have access to daily and weekly competitions and events, which will offer both real and virtual prizes.
- Subscribers will be able to level up their clans in competition (though simply creating or joining a clan is still a free option).
- Subscribers will have "eight times" more video sharing capacity than standard users.
- Subscribers will have access to "expert strategy and analysis," including tips on guns, maps, and perks, which Hirshberg said would be updated and maintained by "real humans."
- And finally, subscribers will get to watch "Elite TV," a service of "premium episodic entertainment" themed around Call of Duty. None of that content is yet created, but Hirshberg suggested that two shows would begin the service: "Friday Night Fights," produced by Ridley and Tony Scott, which will pit real life rivals (like Democrats and Republicans or policemen and firefighters) against each other in Call of Duty matches; and "Noob Tube," a series produced by Will Arnett and Jason Bateman that will feature the stars "smack talking" over user-created videos from the game.

All the previously announced community features are free. You get to keep the DLC even after your subscription ends.

A year is included in the Hardened edition.

Ne, jede Sprache hat seine eigene Version, wie es die letzten Male auch schon war.

Die Grafik hat mich auf der Xbox besonders im Vergleich zu Battlefield 3 ziemlich beeindruckt.
Sieht einfach sehr sauber aus.

Große Überraschung

Ein Kumpel von mir hatte sich die US Version bestellt (damit er den DLC umsonst kriegt), und hat sich trotzdem gestern die deutsche Version gekauft, damit er es jetzt zocken kann...Er meinte, ich könne es dann günstig von ihm haben ("nur" 45€ ), aber ich meinte gleich, dass ich das nur nehme, wenn man es auf englisch stellen kann...Das Angebot werde ich also mal dankend ablehnen
