Yesterday, the Internet was buzzing with reports that Double Fine head Tim Schafer (Brutal Legend, Grim Fandango) said he was interested in making a sequel to his cult-classic creation Psychonauts, but he was currently unable to find a publisher willing to fund the project. Promptly afterward, Minecraft creator Markus Persson responded to Schafer via Twitter saying, "Let's make Psychonauts 2 happen."

After Persson later added a follow-up tweet saying, "Also, I'm serious," a representative for the developer told Eurogamer, "Tim and Markus are talking. Who knows what might happen?"

The original Psychonauts which released in 2005 met with appreciation from critics but sold poorly at retail. Though the odds seem stacked against Schafer, there's obviously some hope being kept alive for fans of this IP.
