Duke Nukem 3D getting remade

Love him or hate him, there's no escaping him now. The success of Duke Nukem Forever has shown that the IP still has merit. Publisher Take-Two is promising more Duke Nukem in the future. "We don't really talk about it in detail but you will see future Duke IP coming from this company," said Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick in an interview with Forbes.

Fans can look forward to a Duke Nukem 3D remake to start with due later this year. A fan made project with Gearbox's blessing, Duke Nukem 3D Reloaded is being developed by Danish studio Interceptor Entertainment and will use Unreal engine 3, which powers such games as Gears of War, Bioshock and Mortal Kombat to name a few. The development studio has received a personal non-commercial license for the Duke Nukem brand and has employed 30 people to work on remaking the 15 year old game.



"A faithful-but-fresh re-envisioning of one of 3D Realms' greatest endeavours, Duke Nukem 3D: Reloaded will invite players both new and old to experience the seminal action-shooter in high-definition. Memorable locations such as Hollywood Holocaust and Shrapnel City will be respectfully recreated with new and exciting vehicular sequences, non-playable characters, scripted events and all-new interactive experiences."
