US, December 3, 2008 - The long-running Ready 2 Rumble boxing franchise is returning next spring in the form of Ready 2 Rumble Revolution (guess the developers didn't get that "Wii" memo). If you're not familiar with the series, it's a comical, arcade boxing experience. This time out your fighters are none-too-subtle parodies of recognizable celebrities. There's Brad Pitt's character from Snatch, Shaun White, James Brown, Will Ferrell, Jack Black, Simon Cowell, and more -- all with satirical aliases, of course. Michael Buffer, famous for his "Let's get ready to rumble!" announcement, will be calling the game.

You'll begin by customizing your own fighter. The game includes some light RPG elements that allow you to build your stats over time. The meat of the game is played in Championship Mode, which follows your boxer week by week as he trains, improves his stats with waggle mini-games, and defeats (thereby unlocking) new fighters. Local multiplayer is also available if you want to invite a friend into the ring.



Uh, that's supposed to be Shaun White. We think...Swings, jabs, and uppercuts are produced by mimicking similar actions with your remote and nunchuk. Land enough combos and you'll be able to unleash an extreme knockdown that your adversary will have a hard time getting up from.

Visually, there's good and bad news. The caricature boxers look good and well-endowed ring babes introduce each round. But that audience looks like it was lifted from the Nintendo 64 original Ready 2 Rumble. You'll notice the screenshots Atari has provided of the game so far cleverly hide the crowd. There's a good reason for that. But, the game isn't shipping for several months so hopefully the onlookers are being addressed.
