Top Selling Games in Australia During 2009

The GfK has revealed the best-selling games in Australia of 2009. Fresh off announcing that Aussies spent $2.05 billion on games last year, it looks as if most of the money is headed Nintendo's way. We could have told you months ago that Wii Fit would wins this, hands down.

For those of you playing at home than answer was 9. Out of the top 20 best-selling games in Australian in 2009, 9 of them were on Wii. Include the DS, and Nintendo had 13 of the top 20 places. In comparison the Xbox 360 had just 3 titles in the top 20, and the PS3 only 2.

Wii Play is the US's Best-Selling Game Ever
11.1 million people can't be wrong

NPD recently revealed a list of the best-selling games in the US, and Nintendo's pack-in title Wii Play came out on top, beating every other game of the past fifteen years.

That's right - those nine minigames have sold more copies than any title from the Call of Duty, Madden NFL, Grand Theft Auto and Guitar Hero series. NPD haven't released the actual sales figures yet, but last October they revealed Wii Play had sold a staggering 11.1 million copies across the US.

The biggest surprise of all in NPD's list? The tenth best-selling game of all time in the US is Namco Museum. That's right - it's outsold Brain Training, Super Smash Bros. Brawl and thousands of other titles.

Wii Software Sales Outmuscle Xbox 360

Wii overtook Xbox 360 for lifetime software sales in the US last year, according to a new report.

Point-of-sales data from NPD show that 175m games have been snapped up in the 38 months that the Wii has now been on sale in this region. It is estimated that software for 360 has sold 164m units since that machine came to market.

During the final quarter of 2009 it is believed that the Wii accounted for 58% of total game sales, with a massive 30m sold in the month of December. This now makes the Wii the front-runner for lifetime software sales across all three platforms.

Leading that charge was no doubt Wii Play, recently revealed to be the best-selling game of all-time in the US. Following it up was probably Just Dance, though the less said about that, the better.

Over the first 38 months for Microsoft and Sony, it is estimated that Xbox 360 gamers bought 112m pieces of software between them, and close to 75m were picked up by PS3 owners. It would be interesting to know how much software DS owners bought, but sadly those figures were not available.

Enterbrain veröffentlicht bald auch Download-Charts

Famitsu-Publisher Enterbrain plant neben der Retail-Erfassung nun auch eine Marktforschung bezüglich Download-Titeln. Im Frühjahr soll es schon so weit sein und deckt folgende Gebiete ab: Wii Shop, DSi Shop, PlayStation Store und den Xbox Live Marktplatz.

Während Retail-Verkaufszahlen auf von Händlern gegebenen Informationen basieren, beziehen sich die Download-Charts auf das Einkaufsverhalten von 300'000 Kunden. Die Daten belaufen sich nur auf den japanischen Markt und können von Kunden über den von Enterbrain bereitgestellten Service "f-ism" (Famitsu Intelligence Strategic Marketing) wöchentlich sowie monatlich für rund 1600€ erworben werden.

Einmal mehr erennt man, wie stark Nintendo auf dem Konsolenmarkt platziert ist. Ich kann mich nich gut an Zeiten erinnern, müsste so um den Gamecube gewesen sein, wo viele schon das Ende noch Nintendo prognostiziert haben. Wii Party Returns to #1 on Japanese Software Charts
Nintendo's new party game displaces Fire Emblem remake.

The Wii, PSP and Nintendo DS have dominated the charts for another week in Japan. Nintendo's Wii Party returned to the #1 spot according to the Media Create rankings ending July 25, displacing the recently released Fire Emblem remake (via Gamasutra).
Wii Party was announced in May, and launched in Japan earlier this month. The gameplay is similar to that of a boardgame, with Miis serving as game pieces. It sold 230,000 units when it launched, and will be arriving in North America this fall.

The other games to make the cut are all mainstays on the Japanese Top 10, with the only newcomers being the dungeon crawler Fate/Extra and the curiously named Katekyoo Hitman Reborn! DS Flame Rumble XX - Kessen! Shin 6 Chouka. Super Mario Galaxy 2 is one notable game that has return to the Top 10 after dropping to #11 last week.

Die deutschen Verkaufs-Charts 2010

Der Infodienst mediabiz.de hat die Software-Jahrescharts 2010 veröffentlicht – mit teilweise erstaunlichen Ergebnissen.

Bei der Best-Selling-Liste (meistverkaufte Einzelversionen) hat das jüngste FIFA mal wieder die Spitzenposition erklommen – vor den PC exklusiven World of Warcraft: Cataclysm und Starcraft 2. Das sich aber auf Platz 4 das schon 2009 erschienene New Super Mario Bros. noch weit vor Super Mario Galaxy 2 platziert ist bemerkenswert. Ebenso erstaunlich ist Nintendos Dominanz Nintendos gegenüber der PS3 und vor allem der XBox 360. Während es mit Gran Turismo 5 immerhin ein PS3-Exklusivtitel weit nach vorn geschafft hat (Platz 5), glänzen die Xbox-360-Exklusivgames wie z.B Alan Wake oder Halo:Reach mit Abwesenheit. Dabei hat es Gran Turismo 5 in der kurzen Zeit sogar geschafft, Red Dead Redemption zu überflügeln. Mit New Super Mario Bros. (Wii & DS), Wii Fit Plus, Wii Party, Super Mario Galaxy , Mario Kart (Wii & DS), Pokemon: Soulsilver/Heartgold, Wii Sports Resort, Mario & Sonic bei den Olympischen Spielen (DS), Professor Layton und die verlorene Zukunft sowie dem erst kürzlich erschienen Donkey Kong Country Returns befinden sich alleine 12 Exklusivtitel für Nintendos kleine und große Erfolgsmaschinen in den Top 30! Typisch Deutsch: auch der Landwirtschafts-Simulator 2011 für PC hat sich in die Top 30 "geackert".

Bei den Multiplattform-Titeln steht natürlich ebenfalls FIFA 11 an der Spitze, dicht gefolgt von Call of Duty: Black Ops. Das groß beworbene, von der Kritik aber nicht verschonte neue Medal of Honor konnte sich nicht einmal in die Top 30 retten. Selbst FIFA 10, obwohl schon über ein Jahr alt, platziert sich auf Platz 6 knapp hinter Starcraft II und noch vor WoW: Cataclysm für PC auf Platz 7. Neben den schon oben erwähnten Nintendo Titeln haben es aber auch Marken wie Assassin´s Creed, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit oder Final Fantasy XIII in die Charts geschafft.

Physical Game Sales Lowest Since 2006

According to market research firm NPD, boxed video game sales are it its lowest since 2006. It its latest monthly report, NPD states that physical sales for May 2011 reached $743 million in the United States, a 14 percent decline year-over-year. This was also the lowest month in sales since October 2006.

The firm notes the sales do not represent the growing digital portion of the industry, which NPD does not track. May saw the release of the Call of Duty: Black Ops Escalation pack, which likely deviated dollars away from packaged goods.

"Keeping in mind that these sales figures represent just the new physical portion of the market for video game hardware, software, and accessories and not the growing portion of the industry that is comprised of digital format content distribution," said NPD analyst Anita Frazier.

"A light slate of new releases is at the heart of this month's performance."

Top performers for May in the U.S. include: L.A. Noire, Brink, Lego Pirates of the Carriage: The Video Game, Portal 2, and Mortal Kombat. PS3, PSP and Xbox 360 hardware sales all experienced sales increases over May 2010, with Xbox 360 leading the way with 270,000 units sold.

Pokémon Black & White 2 verkaufte sich 1,6 Millionen Mal – in zwei Tagen

Enterbrain und die Famitsu haben jetzt die Umsatzzahlen für den neuesten Pokémon Doppel-Titel Black & White 2 veröffentlicht. Laut Andriasang wanderten allein in der Startwoche 1.618.621 Exemplare über den Tresen. Da das Spiel aber an einem Samstag veröffentlicht wurde, besteht diese "erste Woche" lediglich aus zwei Tagen. Black & White 2 landete damit den bisher drittbesten Start eines Spiels für die DS-Plattform. Es ist auch das erste Spiel, dass in diesem Jahr nur in Japan auf eine Million verkaufte Einheiten kommt – plattformübergreifend.

Das am schnellsten verkaufte DS-Spiel ist –wie zu erwarten war– das Original Black & White, von dem 2.637.285 Einheiten in der Start-Woche im September 2010 abgesetzt wurden – ebenfalls an nur zwei Tagen.

Die Famitsu gab auch die neuesten Zahlen zu Nintendos mobilen Konsolen bekannt: Vom DS konnte man bisher erfurchteinlößende 32.855.241 Einheiten verkaufen, vom 3DS konnte Nintendo bisher 6.288.334 Käufer überzeugen.

Pokémon Black 2 & White 2 sollen im Herbst auch in Europa erscheinen.
