[Switch] Taiko no Tatsujin

It looks like Taiko no Tatsujin on Switch is coming westwards

Taiko no Tatsujin, Bandai Namco's outstanding rhythm action game, is coming to the Switch on July 19th in Japan. That's soon! But it also looks like we'll be getting a western release, or at the very least an announcement of one, with the game popping up on the Australian classification board recently.

We already know that an English language version is coming on August 9th - and it's coming via a free patch, too, which should have you covered should you decide to import the Japanese release or buy it via the Japanese eShop - but a proper western release would make the whole process that little bit easier. Now, about getting those drum controllers released over here too... I've sent a begging email to Bandai Namco in Europe for a little clarity on the story, and to impolitely request the drum peripheral makes the journey too, and I'll keep you updated should I get a reply.

As to why it's all so exciting? Well, the Taiko no Tatsujin series has been a mainstay of Japanese arcades since 2001, a drum-based rhythm action game that's deliciously upbeat, and it looks like a perfect match for Nintendo's Switch - and not just because the Switch version will feature songs from Super Mario Odyssey and Splatoon 2.

Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum ‘n’ Fun! Officially Confirmed For Western Switch Release

Bandai Namco has officially announced that Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum ‘n’ Fun! will arrive on Switch in Europe and North America this November.

We've been expecting this taiko drum rhythm game to arrive for some time, with several recent trademarks appearing recently which all hinted at a western release at some point in the near future. This Switch edition of the game boasts unique features that were designed especially with the console in mind.

Using the Joy-Con controllers as drumsticks, Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum ‘n’ Fun! introduces motion control play that aims to replicate the popular arcade-style experience so often seen in Japan. The game also features 20 multiplayer rhythm-based mini-games that can be played by up to 4 players, as well as a 'Rhythm Games Mode', in which players will be able to play as characters from classic Nintendo games including Kirby and a Squid from Splatoon 2.

There's no word just yet on whether or not the Hori Taiko Drum Controller will also make it over to the west, but the product is currently available to import from Play-Asia.

Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum ‘n’ Fun! launches on Nintendo Switch in both regions on 2nd November.
