Was mache ich falsch?

References To Virtual Reality Discovered In Switch's Code

Whatever your opinion on the current state of Virtual Reality, the technology is certainly gaining a lot of attention of late, with efforts by Sony, Samsung, HTC and Oculus all capturing the attention of the media and general public.

It's probably too early to say if VR is going to cause the revolution it has long promised in the gaming arena, but it would seem that Nintendo - despite not having its own headset yet - continues to keep its options open.

Dataminer Cody Brocious has found references to Virtual Reality in the Switch's Interprocess communication (IPC) interfaces, hinting that the company has at least left the door open for future VR support on the system:

https://twitter.com/daeken/status/90192 ... wsrc%5Etfw

The idea of VR on Switch isn't new and we've seen a few hints in the past, but before you get your hopes up, it's worth noting that this code could simply be left over from previous internal experiments conducted at Nintendo. Code of this nature is peppered with things which don't necessarily lead anywhere.

However, if Nintendo did decide to enter the VR arena in the next few years, it has made sure the Switch can at least support it from a coding level.

As Carnegie Mellon University professor and game designer Jesse Schell said back in 2016, Nintendo could be the prime candidate to drive the VR revolution in the same way it scored hits with the Game Boy and Nintendo DS; technologically humble platforms which nevertheless sold like hotcakes to the mainstream market.

Nintendo: we never expected the Switch to sell this much

To say that Nintendo tends to underestimate demand for its new hardware is an understatement. And now they’ve acknowledged that this is the case with the Switch as well.

The company has admitted that it underestimated how well the Switch would sell, bluntly putting it in a recent Japanese interview: “Nintendo has never expected the Nintendo Switch to sell this much”.
The company added that one of the main reasons as to why there are still shortages is not because they can’t increase production — they can, and they did — but as Nintendo puts it to Japanese news outlet Mainichi:

“It’s easy to increase the production capacity of the factory. The finished product needs to be delivered from the harbor to the rest of the world, and rushing shipping is an extremely difficult thing to do.”

The company added that it’s also difficult to get components because other companies like Apple (and Nintendo named Apple specifically) are competing for the same components.
And Nintendo wasn’t too optimistic about meeting demand in the near future: they plan to ship 10 million units this year, but said that “in reality there are 20 million people who actually want to buy one.”

Does this mean we can expect shortages to last until well into 2018? It’s going to take a while to manufacture (and ship) all those units to meet demand of an extra 20 million people who want one.

Eventuell könnten sie mal ein bisschen weniger Switchs nach Europa verschicken. Hierzulande ist ja schon länger kein Problem mehr den Handheld zu kriegen. :uthink:

Indie Developer Claims Nintendo Is Bringing Achievement System To Switch

The developer behind the upcoming Nintendo Switch game, Lichtspeer, has recently participated in a Reddit Ask Me Anything thread. During the AMA Tom Tomaszewski from Crunching Koalas seems to have accidentally let slip that an achievement system is coming to Nintendo’s latest system. An achievement system would certainly be a nice addition. What do you think?

There Is NES Golf Hidden Inside The Switch’s Firmware

You may recall a couple of months ago that a built-in Nintendo Switch emulator had been discovered by modders. The emulator only came with the word “flog”, and modders have managed to figure out what that word means. “flog” is “golf” backwards, and it turns out that an old game, NES Golf, has been hidden inside the Nintendo Switch’s firmware. Not only is the game playable, but the “flog” NES Golf supports two player via Joy-Cons. Some are speculating that there’s some kind of hidden method that allows players to launch the game from the Switch menu, but nobody knows for sure.

Rumour: Netflix App Ready For Switch, All It Needs Is Nintendo's Go-Ahead

The incredible sales success of the Switch has masked a few irksome issues people have with the console, one of the most pressing being the lack of any video streaming capabilities, despite it being the perfect tool for portable binge-watching.

However, if a fresh rumour is to be believed, this won't be the case for much longer. Apparently, a Netflix sales representative has revealed that the company's Switch app is "locked and loaded" and all that is preventing a release is the go-ahead from Nintendo itself.

Naturally, without any official confirmation from either Netflix or Nintendo we have to take this rumour with a pinch of salt, but surely it's a matter of 'when' rather than 'if' regarding Netflix's arrival on the hybrid system.

Und wenn es kommt, dann bitte mit Downloadfunktion. Sonst macht die App keinen Sinn.
