Nintendo’s new account system, officially titled “Nintendo Account” (ニンテンドーアカウント), will connect users of Nintendo hardware, smart devices, and PCs. Members will be able to sign in with their Nintendo Network ID, a user name and password, and Facebook, Twitter, and Google accounts. Nintendo Account launches alongside Miitomo March 2016.
Club Nintendo’s replacement service, called “My Nintendo” (マイニンテンドー),” will also arrive March 2016. By purchasing and playing software, members will earn points, which can then be used to obtain digital add-on content, original merchandise, or a coupon, which can be used as a discount for new software.
Nintendo will use a cloud-based data service to transfer game data between mobile games and console games.
Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima told investors and analysts that unannounced titles are coming to both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS during the 2015 holiday season to promote the hardware.
Kimishima also notes that 70 percent of Animal Crossing fans in Japan are women, and that Nintendo will be “pushing more games to win more women users this Christmas.”
Kimishima said Nintendo is struggling to meet demand for Animal Crossing amiibo cards. He added that sales for a new round of shipments will start today.
A chart was shown for global digital eShop purchases, with sales for downloadable software increasing more and more each year.
“Tough times are ahead for Nintendo’s Wii U console and 3DS handheld device because rivals are already moving on to the next-generation technology, such as virtual reality,” said Osamu Kamada, an analyst with Tokai Tokyo Securities.
