Captain Rainbow fan translation updated, should be ready by Christmas

For years we’ve hoped Captain Rainbow would see an English-language release, though given how odd and strangely adult it was we never really expected it to happen. Thankfully, a group of die-hards have been working on an English patch for some time now, and they expect it to be ready by Christmas.

For those not familiar with it, Captain Rainbow is a bizarre Wii game published by Nintendo and developed by Skip (Chibi Robo, the Art Style series). It stars Nick, a young chap with his own TV show in which he can transform into the superhero Captain Rainbow. His popularity is flagging though, so he travels to Mimin Island, where dreams are said to come true, to restore the public’s love for him.

There he meets all manner of D-list Nintendo stars who have also travelled to Mimin Island to try and fulfil their own dreams, but have failed in some way or another. It’s up to Nick to help each character out. Cameos include the likes of Birdo (who asks you to prove she’s a woman by finding a “vibrating” object in her bedroom… seriously), an overweight Little Mac from Punch-Out!! and Ossan, the man from NES title Golf. Each of them has their own little quirky personality disorders which make the game more than a little bizarre.

The English translation is being undertaken by Kirameki, who say they’re aiming to get it done by Christmas. In the past Kirameki have translated GameCube gem GiFTPiA, but that was only a text file with the translated script on it – the Captain Rainbow translation will be an actual patch that will work with a retail version of the game.

As a teaser to show you how the translation process is coming along, Kirameki released this video on its YouTube channel yesterday.

So, it's time to sum up the current situation of the Captain Rainbow project!
First of all, the thing you want to know the most: the patch won't be released this december like I supposed many months ago.

All of us have been busy with millions of other things, and we haven't been able to work on it enough to finish in time. Some got a new job, some moved to a new school, and we of Kirameki were particularly busy with other important translations of ours.
You'll be sad or even angry after this message, but we hope you'll forgive us for not keeping our promise, and continue to cheer us up until the end of the project. The more you grow up, the more everyday life becomes strict with your hobbies, and even free time can become a time when you're too tired to work on anything difficult and demanding.

Stay tuned for other news, see you soon!

So lange sie die Flinte nicht ins Korn werfen sollen sie sich die Zeit nehmen. Zu viele Fanprojekte erlebt, die dann plötzlich bei 85 % o.ä. stecken geblieben sind 8(
